SOLD _ SINGER 421G GERMAN FREE ARM SEWING MACHINE - Fully cleaned and serviced
SOLD --- Singer 421G Slant-Shank
Free Arm Sewing Machine
The 421G is unique in that it has a detachable bed to become a 'free-arm' sewing machine. The 421G and 431G were the only 400 series Singers with this feature. The 421G makes a more economical free arm sewing machine than the Singer 222 featherweight.
The German made Singers in North America are rare, since they were not marketed here and were apparently only brought to North America by individuals. Even so, this machine is originally outfitted with a 110V motor for the NA electrical system.
This machine was made in Singer's Karlsruhe plant in Germany. The original production numbers of these machines are low since it was the top-of-the-line model offered. In its day (the early 1960s), it was an extremely expensive purchase. Estimates are that in today’s currency adjusted for inflation, it would have cost the equivalent of around $4000-$4500USD... so at $400USD, this machine is a real deal!!!
This machine is fully cleaned, lubricated, serviced, and tested.
SOLD --- 1882 JONES SERPENTINE - 'SWAN NECK' or 'CAT BACK' HAND CRANK SEWING MACHINE
The Jones 'Serpentine' or sometimes called the 'Cat Back' or the 'Swan Neck' sewing machine, was made by the British, Jones Sewing Machine Company Ltd., starting sometime in the mid 1870s.
Using the features and the serial number (#20384) of this machine, would indicate it as most likely a Type #6 Jones Serpentine dating it to 1882 and making it about 141 years old. It is in remarkable shape for being as old as it is.
The decals on the top part of the machine are still very nice, showing little wear. The lower decals show more ware. The main bed decal is in good shape, still displaying a beautiful green colour. The end plate is a beautiful piece off embossing.
This machine is serviced and runs smoothly and freely. The shuttle and a bobbin are included as is a needle. It sews a very nice stitch.
